Just Another Day In Flyerdom.

Bev asked me, “So how do you feel about firing Hitchcock and Clarke resigning??”

Yeah, that was my shocking surprise for the day when I got up this morning. Reports all over the wire that Hitch was fired this morning and Bobby Clarke had resigned.

Hitch’s firing surprised me, to say the least. BUT…he’s yet ANOTHER coach in the Flyers long and storied history that has once again lost the respect of the team. Forsberg REFUSING a couple weeks back to shoot during the shootout was just the icing on the cake. Bringing in John Stevens as the new coach is a pretty good move…he coached the Phantoms to the Calder Cup in ’05. He knows most of the younger players on the Flyers team VERY WELL. I think he’ll light a fire under their asses.

And then there’s Clarke…the man I’ve wanted out of the Flyers front office for YEARS…”The decisions that had to be made, I was letting other people make them,” said Clarke, acknowledging he was burned out. “I deeply regret not being able to bring a Stanley Cup here. … I didn’t deliver.”

I call BULLSHIT. Clarke’s blaming the team’s problems on others…namely, the new interim GM, Paul Holmgren. Clarke himself was the one who exclaimed before the ’05-’06 season that “speed doesn’t matter.” Yeah, thanks for saddling us with a bunch of slow-ass, non-producing defensemen. Thanks for giving us die-hard Flyers fan a team that gets SKATED ALL OVER whenever they’re on the ice. A team that once again gets embarassed by the speed and skill of Buffalo…our worse regular-season loss in TWELVE YEARS.

It’ll be interesting to see what’s going to come of this.  Frankly, I’m not getting my hopes up.  I don’t need my heart broken AGAIN.
Hell, even the Washington Caps look ten times better than the Flyers do on the ice!

I’ve always felt that Clarke did not “GET” the new NHL. He still wants to go with the slow goons.

Wow, glad to know somebody’s paying attention to hockey. Down here in Central Florida, it’s a little hard to pay attention to it, even though I can get good seats to Tampa Bay Lightning games.

Of course, I don’t need to remind you that the Flyers are my favorite team in the Eastern Conference besides Carolina. I missed a Bolts-Flyers game the other night and will be missing a Bolts-Canes game tomorrow night because I’ve got to work at ASS O’CLOCK the next day.

Sadly, from what I’ve been reading/hearing, it doesn’t look too promising for the Wings this year, either. It’s ok, at least hockey is still alive ..
