Tonight was the first time I’d ever driven home from my Mom and Dad’s in complete darkness. With the ending of daylight savings time, I’d have to leave their house at like 3 to get home before it gets dark. Of course, there’s no way I’m going to miss a chance for my parents’ awesome home cooking, so I ended up not leaving their place until 6:30.
It actually wasn’t all that bad of a drive…until I crossed over the state line into Maryland, that is. I’ve been living here for 13 years, and I’m still not used to the way people drive in this state. I mean, everywhere you go, there are tons of bad drivers. The people in Maryland? Kamikaze, I swear.
I was almost involved in a semi truck accident…there was this idiot in a red Ford Explorer who was all over the road. I’d passed him when I came through the toll at the state line and I thought I’d gotten away from him, but he showed up suddenly about twenty miles later. I was sandwiched quite comfortably (if you can believe that) between two tractor trailers in the right hand lane when the moron in the Explorer comes out of nowhere. He’s bobbing and weaving in the center lane, and then he shoots forward and cuts in front of the truck in front of me. The truck jams on his brakes…I do the same, check my driver’s side mirror, see that the space next to me is clear, and zip over into the middle lane. The tractor behind me might’ve hit me if I hadn’t done that.
I will be SO GLAD when we’re out of here. Yes, drivers in Delaware can be idiots, too, but you know what? Unlike in Maryland, I don’t feel like I’m taking my life into my own hands when I get behind the wheel!
