Eric Desjardins Named Player Development Coach
Seven-Time winner of Barry Ashbee Trophy joins Flyers staff To work with prospects

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that former Flyers defenseman Eric Desjardins was named player development coach, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren.

“Eric will be a great asset to the organization as he works with our young drafted players, helping them to prepare their game for the next level,” said Holmgren in making the announcement. “Eric was a great Flyer and his experience will be invaluable to the young players in our system.”

“When I left, I knew that I was a Flyer forever, but now that I’m back with the organization, it’s an honor,” said Desjardins. “I have a chance to work with the team again, and work with Paul Holmgren and the coaching staffs of the Flyers and Phantoms. It’s a great opportunity for me and I hope I can do a great job.”

That makes me happy on so many levels.  It’s WONDERFUL to have Rico back with the organization, and I love how he said, “When I left, I knew that I was a Flyer forever…”

It’s been almost two years since he retired, and I cried the day it was announced.

Houston, we have the 2008-2009 NHL schedule!

I am so giddy, I could pee.  With all of this excitement, I’m going to need some adult diapers!

Oh, who the heck am I kidding?  The way hubby and I are going, we’re going to need them on a regular basis by the time we’re 40!

The Oilers signed Shawn Horcoff to a nice little six-year deal yesterday.  It’s about damn time the Oilers did SOMETHING right this off-season…

I heart me some Horcoff.

  • I was a little surprised upon hearing this. Great for Philly but I thought Eric might get a job here in Montreal. He was highly regarded here for his off ice presence as much as on ice. That and being French Canadian, he would have been a great fit for the front office here. Philly seems to have finally shaken off the Clarke days and are moving in a nice direction. We would certainly love a rematch from last year’s playoffs.
