That about explains my brain right now. One big ‘ol fat FAIL.

I saw that one this morning and spit my iced coffee all over the damn place.

Today has been insane. Actually, this whole week has just been freakin’ nuts. No need for me to be taking any diet pills or fat burners…I’ve lost so much weight lately due to running around like a chicken with its head cut off that my jeans are just about falling off of my hips.

Thank gawd I don’t lose weight in my boobs! That would make me SERIOUSLY unhappy!

Hubby is here at work with me today, as we have a massive project that needs bindery work, and of course the boss has given the customer a ridiculously quick time-of-delivery estimate, which puts a mega-ton of pressure on us all. Plus, things with the pressman aren’t going well AT ALL.

In fact, I put a help wanted ad up on Craigslist yesterday. Out of four people that have responded so far, only ONE has press experience.

Mercury is in freakin’ retrograde, I swear. This week has just been…ARGH! That’s about all I can say!

Oh, and Big Sis? I published your freakin’ comment. Happy now?

My plans to get some Christmas shopping done online this past weekend were thwarted by two things…a nasty headache that kept me down and out all weekend, and the fact that hubby’s parents went off on one of those Disney vacations Friday morning.

In other words, I felt like crap, I didn’t have a shopping list, and I felt like crap.

That about sums up this past weekend in a nutshell.

~*~*~*~*~*~

I have been trying like hell to update Soapworks, but a certain fat cat has been incredibly clingy lately. It’s hard to type over top of a 17 pound cat.

Hell On Four Paws has also gotten herself a new nickname…Destructo The Wonder Cat. Sunday morning, she decided that my sleeping past 11:30 AM wasn’t to her liking, so she jumped up onto our large dresser and tossed cased Beanie Babies all over the floor. The crash brought hubby running into the bedroom to see what had happened.

By that point, Mommy was very, VERY cranky. H.O.F.P. hid under the bed for a little while.

The bedroom is absolutely trashed, thanks to her Sunday morning antics.

Cats.

*huff*

I am a voracious reader. I have bookcase upon bookcase stacked with books in my apartment. My dream is to own a house that has an entire wall of built-in bookcases.

What’s more fun than finding free audio books on the web? Finding out that you’ve snagged an Early Reviewers copy of a book over at Library Thing! I’m excited…this is the second time I’ve been chosen to get an Early Reviewers book.

Yay!

~*~*~*~*~*~

Hubby had a doctor’s appointment last Friday, and his new doctor put him on head meds, the name of which escapes me, as it’s not one that I’ve ever heard of before.

(Duh. Check our online prescription history, you idiot. He’s on Celexa, but it’s the generic and I didn’t know what the name of the generic was. I was on Celexa eons ago, when the ex-husband and I were having major troubles in our marriage.)

*cough*

There’s already a marked improvement in hubby’s disposition, and he’s actually been doing things around the apartment, instead of just laying around all day. In fact, he called me up at work on Tuesday and said, “Honey, I took out all the trash, did a load of my work laundry, cleaned all of the litter boxes, filled up two of them and leveled off the other one, put all the stuff in the dishwasher, took pork chops out for dinner, and called and activated that credit card you needed me to do. Is there anything else you want me to do before you get home?”

Imagine my surprise. I about keeled over onto the floor when I heard what he’d done.

I’m so looking forward to this weekend. This is hubby’s off-weekend, and I’m hoping that we can put a good dent into cleaning and straightening our apartment.

Especially since hubby’s got two disassembled pieces of furniture in his car that we need to get up into the apartment!

This past weekend was just what I needed to pull my head out of my ass. I’m feeling better, and my outlook on things is much improved…even though the Flyers dared to lose a hockey game in my presence.

See what a little bit of shopping does for a person?

Okay, I’m lying. I didn’t do a little bit of shopping. I did a ton of shopping and blew a whole wad of cash, and then I made my credit cards scream.

Saturday, I got up to my parents’ house super-early so that Mom and I could take advantage of the early sales at Kohl’s. I finally managed to score myself my Philadelphia Eagles Brian Westbrook (#36) jersey, along with a new Eagles t-shirt (50% off), two World Champion Phillies shirt and a regular Phillies shirt, and a ton of other stuff. We hit up a couple of more stores after that and then nommed on some delicious Hardee’s for lunch.

Later that night, I did some Christmas shopping on QVC and got stuff for Mom, my one cousin, and my Aunt and Uncle.

Sunday, Dad carted me up to Philly, and after the loss, I hit up the Fan Gear store and blew another chunk of change on some Flyers toys and three new shirts for my wardrobe. Mom had dinner ready a little bit after we got home, and then Dad and I watched the second half of the Eagles game. Sadly, I missed my Ravens play, thanks to the Flyers.

Monday, Mom and I went out to return some stuff, and then I loaded up my car with all of the stuff I’d bought and made my way home. I got home before hubby’s alarm clock went off, and he ended up calling out of work to spend time with me…plus, he wasn’t feeling well at all.

Work has been boring as all get out these last two days. I’m not going to pool today, because I’ve got an awful infection in my jaw, face, ear, and neck. Every time I turn my head, I feel like the top of my skull is gonna pop off. I’m hoping the boss will let me cut loose early, ’cause I just want to go home and curl up on my couch with a heating pad on my face!

Contemplating a move to Texas? Unless you’re being transferred from your current place of employment to one that’s already out in Texas, you’ll need to find yourself a job, right?

Of course, it’s hard to find a new job. You could dig through a newspaper’s classified section, but that’s so limiting. You could go out and pound the pavement, but who wants to do THAT? You can search through all of the different job listing websites across the internet, but that takes a lot of time, and you’ll find yourself running into the same help wanted ads over and over and over again.

That’s where the Texas marketing jobs website comes in. The website offers up a very comprehensive and easily searchable listing of jobs all across the state of Texas. As of right now, there are over 10,000 jobs posted up on the website. Are you looking for an account director’s position, or maybe a sales representative? You can narrow down your job search by job title. You can also do a city job search, if you’re looking for something in a more specific area of the state, or you can do a search by company.

It’s hard enough in today’s economy to find a job on your own. Isn’t it nice that there are sites out there like this to make it just a little bit easier?

I currently have the full-sized version of this picture taped to my desk at work. For me, this was the defining moment of the World Series…after Brad Lidge threw the final strike, he dropped to his knees in front of the mound shouting, “Oh, my God! Oh, my God!”

That was me after Lidge threw the final strike…sitting on my couch, screaming, “Oh, my God, oh, MY GOD! WE JUST WON THE WORLD SERIES!” in disbelief.

Yes, WE. I’m from Philly. The Flyers, Phillies, and Eagles are my LIFE. Once a Philly girl, ALWAYS a Philly girl.

Even now, it still really hasn’t sunk in. It probably won’t until I’m actually in Philadelphia on Sunday to see the Flyers game with my Dad.

Just a few articles of note, mainly for myself:
Series save is perfect ending for Lidge

Oh, and if anyone would like to buy me the 21″ framed version of THIS for Christmas, I’d be forever grateful.

(Notice the new SPORTS STUFF category? I figured it was about time, since I don’t ALWAYS talk about the Flyers…)

Now, if only the Flyers could follow suit. If that were to happen, I think I could die a happy woman.

Now that the World Series is over, I seriously need to update my Phillies wardrobe. I have a ton of Phillies stuff that I bought a good fifteen years ago, and unfortunately, none of it really fits me any more. I was a bit slimmer back then when I bought all of the stuff!

There’s two main things that I really want to replace, and one of them is my batting practice jersey. I barely fit into my old one, although I did squeeze into it for Game 4 of the World Series, just like I squeezed into my other “dress” jersey for Game 1. Buy.com has the batting jersey on sale for a decent price, and the free shipping is always a nice bonus. I’d ask my parents to get me that for Christmas, but Mom’s already bought me a brand new Flyers winter coat.

I really need to go through my Phillies wardrobe to see what I’ve got. I do know I need a new hoodie, along with a lightweight jacket to replace the one that’s hanging in our coat closet. That jacket is just about ready for the trash, although I think I’m going to cut it apart and incorporate it into a pillow or something.

My 1993 National League Championship t-shirt? That’s gonna get framed and hung up right next to the rest of my Phillies plaques…eventually.

Gah. I still can’t believe that they just won the World Series! My head is spinning!

I am in shock. I think it’s going to take a little while for it to sink in that my hometown…after all of the years of heartbreak and tears…has finally won a sports championship. It was an absolute joy to watch the Phillies this season, and to see them win the World Series was most definitely the cherry on top of a VERY SWEET dessert.

On top of being a die-hard Flyers fan, I’m also a devout Phillies fan. I have been since I was a kid. I spent at least once a month throughout the entire 1993 season in Veterans Stadium. When they lost the World Series, I cried like a baby for DAYS.

And now, FINALLY, the Phillies are the top of the heap. To say I’m ecstatic is a bit of an understatement.

I had 9 ball tonight, and I guess the rest of Game 5 was weighing on my mind, because I couldn’t do a damn thing at the pool table. I lost 16-4…my first loss of the session…and I promptly packed my gear up and headed home. I had a few things I needed to get done before the game started, and I needed to sort through the stack of this week’s mail. Stuff like ads for cheap auto insurance and the latest catalogs that I don’t want got tossed into the trash bag at my feet, and everything else got put into an “office” pile.

Now I have a ton of paperwork to sort through. Yay.

Dinner was chicken tenders tossed quickly into the microwave. I stuffed my face as I settled in to watch the remaining three innings, and I almost tossed the plate across the room when the Rays managed to tie the game again after the Phillies scored in the bottom of the sixth.

I was texting back and forth with the ex when Lidge came to the mound. Both of us were on tenterhooks throughout the entire end of the game…he and I suffered through the heartbreak of the 1993 World Series loss together, and neither of us wanted to go through that again.

When all was said and done, I called my Dad, and we were both screaming and crying on the phone. Mom was in the other room watching QVC, and they put the Championship hats and shirts up for sale…Dad told her to buy one for him and one for me.

The curse of William Penn has finally been broken, and the city of Philadelphia can finally celebrate the sweetness that is a World Championship. It’s been a long, LONG time coming!

ETA: Wow. The Wikipedia entry on the curse has already been edited!

The Curse Lifted

On June 18, 2007, ironworkers from Local Union 401 helped raise the final beam in the construction of the Comcast Center at 17th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard in downtown Philadelphia. The Comcast Center is currently the tallest building in the city at 975 ft (297.2 m). In an attempt to end the curse, workers John Joyce and Dan Ginion attached a small figurine of Billy Penn to the beam, along with the traditional American flag and small evergreen tree.[5]

On October 29, 2008, the Philadelphia Phillies won the 2008 World Series in five games against the Tampa Bay Rays. There were fears that Billy Penn had taken his final revenge on October 27, when the fifth game was suspended in the sixth inning due to a rain delay with the game tied at 2-2, and the Phillies leading series 3-1. However, the game resumed on October 29, when the Phillies rebounded with a 4-3 win. With this victory, the curse seems to have been lifted. A parade through Philadelphia is planned for October 31, 2008 to celebrate the victory; it will be the first ticker-tape parade down Broad Street in Philadelphia since 1985.
